Freddie Mercury met the world with a fighter's opening move — go first, go loud, outrun the fear. Venus is the strongest thing there, and it makes the audience the great love affair — something to court, dazzle and marry nightly. The cost is legible too. Devotion given to thousands is easier than devotion given to one, and the blur that fused a stadium into a single voice could also dissolve his own outline. Deeper still, pressure at the roots: displacement early, and a need to build a name large enough to stand where a birthplace should be.
